Paddle Out

Discover South Florida from a different point of view and get a first hand view of the environment Tropical Audubon fights so hard to protect. TAS’s volunteer guides will lead paddlers through bays, mangroves and sawgrass prairies. Come learn for yourself how these waterways sustain wildlife and city-dwellers alike.

The trips on our paddle schedule are open to all current TAS members. Becoming a TAS member or renewing your membership is easy, visit our donation page to Join or Renew. In addition to trips on our paddle schedule, we can arrange private trips for team-building, school field trips, scouts, family reunions and more. For more information please contact Michelle Metcalf.

Age Requirement: Our trips are appropriate for kayakers of all levels, but we ask that children between the ages of 9 and 15 be accompanied by an adult. Any child below 18 requires a signed parental consent in order to participate. We do not permit children below 9 years old to participate in the trips on our paddle schedule (private trips may be arranged for groups with younger children upon request).

Gear: We provide kayaks and all related paddling gear. Participants should bring the following:

  • Close-toe water-shoes
  • Long sleeves
  • Hat
  • Sunscreen
  • Bug spray
  • Lunch/Snack
  • Plenty of water
  • Dry bag (optional)
  • Goggles (optional)

Donations: We appreciate a donation of $25 per paddler, per trip. Some trips require a deposit in advance, but generally donations may be provided on the day of the trip. Students and anyone bringing their own kayak may contribute at a reduced rate of $15 per trip.

Our Guides: Paddle Out is led by volunteer kayak enthusiasts. We are always looking to expand our team, so if you are interested in helping to guide trips, contact Pilar Rodriguez. Guides-in-training learn how to help a fellow paddler who has fallen out of the kayak, how to navigate and how to utilize our gear and safety equipment.

Photograhpy Contest: Send us your best paddling pictures! Paddle Out guides will select the picture that best captures the Paddle Out experience and announce a winner at a TAS event. The winning picture will be featured on the Paddle Out webpage. Submit your best works to Michelle Metcalf.
