Events
As part of our extensive Community Outreach programming, TAS hosts an engaging series of cultural, educational and culinary events, most at our South Miami Steinberg Nature Center campus and a handful off site. With few exceptions, these festivities are largely free and open to the public. They are designed to educate, entertain or both, and to better acquaint our members and area residents with the idyllic bastion of wild and historic Florida that we steward. Each event serves as a unique vehicle for helping us grow our Conservation Mission.

FEATURED EVENT: BEE-cause Flea

Supporting the Pollinators who feed our Planet - Birds, Bees, Butterflies, Bats & Beetles
Shop our inaugural BEE-cause Flea @TropicalAudubon and help support the pollinators who feed our planet. Browse among a carefully curated cross-section of 12-15 vendors — from artisan makers to bakers and beekeepers.

Tropical Audubon Society's Conservation Concert series (aka ConCon) first took flight in 2010. The Keystone Patio, restored with ConCon funding, serves as the “stage” for community partner bands who “Rock the Doc” on the last Saturday of each month from January through April. Perennial “House” band faves include Plan B, Solar Dogs and Take Sixx. BirdStock traditionally closes out the season; its all-original requisite showcases local acts performing a playlist of uniquely personal tunes. Dancing — on the patio, in the house, on the lawn or on the tables — is encouraged!
Walk in the Woods with Wine & Whisk

Enchanting alfresco dinner parties are staged in Spring and Fall on our extraordinary Steinberg Nature Center campus to better acquaint members and prospective patrons with the TAS Mission and the oasis we steward in the midst of a dense urban setting.

Native Plant Sale

Create your own Native Habitat! Hundreds of prime Native Plant specimens are offered for sale at our Steinberg Nature Center campus in South Miami – from indigenous Dade County pine to coontie to peperomia, bird and butterfly attractors, and more. Native Plant experts from our Board of Directors are on hand to help buyers plan a subtropical, xeriscape oasis in their own yard. Net proceeds help support our conservation Mission.
Summer Movie Nite

“Chill Out with Tropical Audubon Society Summer Movie Night” rolls every summer with the screenings of relevant environmental films such as “Vanishing of the Bees”, “Plastic Paradise – the Great Pacific Garbage Patch”, and "Groundswell Rising: Protecting our Children's Air & Water."
Bird Day

To enhance awareness of just how important South Florida is to migrating birds along the Atlantic Flyway, TAS hosts Bird Day in early Spring. You’ll learn more about living in our species-rich environment, and how you can personally help support and host our precious feathered friends as they travel back and forth between North and South America.

High Pines Bird Walk, Happy Hour & Annual Open House

To welcome everyone home from the four winds, inaugurate our Miami "season" and mark Fall Migration, Tropical Audubon Society hosts a High Pines Open House encompassing a neighborhood Pathway Bird Walk & Happy Hour at our Steinberg Nature Center on the last Friday of September. We especially encourage High Pines, Pinecrest and Coral Gables neighbors to attend. This annual event is designed as an opportunity to socialize and network while celebrating Nature & Neighborhood.
Bird and Wildlife Weekend at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Gardens

The Bird and Wildlife Weekend at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden will feature educational presentations by bird and wildlife experts and engaging bird walks designed for birders of all ages. Attendees can also purchase bird-attracting plants and birding merchandise.
Art Night
(October-March, second Friday)
The period parlor at our National Historic Landmark Doc Thomas House headquarters is transformed into a vibrant art gallery during SOMI Art Walk season. Each month from October through March, a distinguished area artist or aspiring student artists is/are invited to display unique, Nature-inspired works. On the second Friday of each particular month, TAS hosts an artist’s reception and invites the community to meet the artist(s) from 6-9 p.m.
Dine Out with TAS @ Whisk Gourmet

Dine Out with TAS is a delicious, symbiotic dining showcase highlighting our Roseate Spoonbill Community Partner, Whisk Gourmet. Much like the attributes of the exquisitely plumed, delicate-pink native bird, Whisk’s exceptional local menu is beautifully composed, richly layered and thoroughly unique to our region. TAS members and friends can make a dinner date with Whisk’s rom 6 p.m. until closing on the first designated Tuesday of the summer months; in turn,Whisk tithes 10 percent of dinner checks (eat-in and take-out) to TAS. Enjoy signature dishes such as Chef Brendan’s famous Fried Chicken or his sensational Shrimp & Grits.

To become acquainted with our winter visitors who have taken up residence in our well-canopied High Pines neighborhood, Tropical Audubon Society hosts an early-morning walking expedition capped by a light brunch at our historic Doc Thomas headquarters. We especially encourage High Pines, Pinecrest and Coral Gables neighbors to attend. This annual event is designed as an opportunity to socialize and network while celebrating Nature & Neighborhood.
