Volunteers are the figurative “Wind beneath our Wings.” Our crucial Conservation Mission can only take flight with the help of volunteers whose variety of talents, skills and backgrounds expand our reach and impact. Volunteering at TAS is a rewarding experience. Whether planting native flora at our Steinberg Nature Center grounds, guiding bird walks or kayak tours, assisting at events, or lending writing, editing or PR skills, volunteering your time and expertise will literally impact and enhance quality of life for all South Florida’s residents, feathered and otherwise.

Kayak Guide
Be a guide for Paddle Out with TAS, a project that increases awareness and facilitates data collection on wildlife habitats via monthly kayak excursions on Biscayne Bay and within Biscayne National Park.

Dig in at Doc Thomas House Eco Restoration Days: Help TAS restore and steward our Steinberg Nature Center native landscape, located at our headquarters, 5530 Sunset Dr., Miami, FL 33143. 8:30 a.m. until Noon on the 3rd Saturday of the month.
Dig in at Porter-Russell Pineland Eco Restoration Days: Help remove non-native and invasive plant species, maintain shrubs and trails on the TAS-stewarded 8-acre South Dade property, one of the few remaining tracts of globally imperiled Pine Rockland habitat remaining outside of Everglades National Park. Pine Rocklands are a globally endangered habitat, so efforts to preserve remaining acres are vital. Workdays at this site take place from 8:30 a.m. until noon on the 2nd Saturday of the month and are now reserved exclusively for service clubs, ecology classes, corporations and private work parties of 10 volunteers or more. Advanced reservations are required.

Help TAS tell its story. Write for our publications, generate social media, promote our events, or assist us with grant writing.
Special Events
Help organize and run our Native Plant Sales, Conservation Concerts, Art Nites, Rallies, Workshops and Movie Nites.
Docent
Doc Thomas House Ambassadors have a rich and colorful story to convey to visitors. The 1931 cottage was recently named to the National Register of Historic Places, is a Dade County Historic Landmark and has been the site of milestone conservation achievements. We especially need nearby High Pines, South Miami and Coral Gables neighbors to volunteer their time as TAS docents. Sometimes our need is as simple as unlocking a gate for a delivery truck, or as social as co-hosting Open Houses and Art Nites.
