Whimbrel at Crandon Beach 9/26/16.

Late this afternoon at around 6:00pm I found a Whimbrel at the North end of Crandon beach past the first lifeguard tower. The bird was feeding and associating with a large flock of Sanderlings and was cooperative and easily approachable. Early September last year I had a flock of nine American Avocets in the same location sitting on a sandbar. Shane was able to make it down on time to see the bird and get good photographs. eBird checklist with photos is below.

Nico, you are killing it!

Im glad that one of Miami-Dade's most productive shorebird stopovers is covered well.

I had the Whimbrel today at 2:00 p.m. at the northernmost part of the beach near the wooden boardwalk. It was initially foraging on an exposed rocky area and then moved to the beach. Great find, Nico!
