Where abouts in Lake Worth?
Just spotted a western tanager in my back yard in fort lauderdale fl. I live 1 mile outside of the cruise port. He probably hitched a ride on a ship from the west. I have seen birds stranded on ships before when i was on a cruise.
I also just spotted a Western Tanager while on my morning walk in Coconut Grove. I recognized him immediately because I used to live in Washington state. Unfortunately, I did not have my phone with me to take a photo. He was really funny because he landed on top of a palm tree and couldn’t figure out how to keep his balance. When the leaves drooped down in the breeze, he turned upside down and held on. It was quite a show until he decided to fly elsewhere and I lost him.
I saw one a few weeks ago in West Palm Beach. The very bold color is what caught my attention and led me to search for the species. At first I assumed it was a Baltimore Oriole but the head was bright orange, so I believe it was a Western Tanager.
Lifelong California resident just moved to Lake Worth, Florida and just saw a pair of Western Tanagers in my backyard. First noticed them because, dude, the color! Then the song, I thought my husband was messing with me.
Western tanager seen in Steinhatchee Fl over past few weeks, c poll confirmed with fellow birders and have pics
