Western Spindalis at Crandon
Today between 4-5pm I had a female-type Western Spindalis at Crandon. The bird was seen and heard in the trees along the sidewalk going out to the beach at the end of the South Beach parking lot. This bird was pretty shy and didn't give the best of looks. If you would like a pretty, more colorful Spindalis please see the folks at Deering. The three on Key Biscayne aren't all dazzled up. If you are keeping score that may be the fourth Spindalis in the county as I type this. Couple that with the Anis and I think we should all be asking Toe what has happened to his beloved dome.

Western Spindalis is so 2016. The dome is very selective, allowing certain West Indian species, but keeping out all others. Harris's Sparrow, Smith's Longspur, Brant, etc..... I recall a few years ago when a pair of Brant made it to within 300 yards of the county line near Card Sound Rd. At one point, I saw them fly north towards Dade County, only to bounce off the dome! Still waiting for that one for the county.
