Two more birds for our June Challenge list
My son Philip and I went offshore with our small boat on Wednesday to try and get some storm-petrels that we missed on other trips. We haven't tried hard to get these yet until this trip. We were not disappointed as we had great looks at two species. We had Leach's Storm-Petrel and Wilson's along with Bridled Tern and Sooty Tern. We were hoping for Band-rumped Storm-Petrel but have failed to find one yet! We also had three Brown Boobies which have been less common than usual. We also had three or four Audubon's Shearwater which is always nice. We went out to about 500 feet of water, about 15-miles from the dock in Homestead. It was neat to watch both the Wilson's Storm-Petrel and the Leach's Storm-Petrel pattering on water. I took a picture of the Leach's as it disappeared behind a wave. I have attached photos of an Audubon's Shearwater, Leach's Storm-Petrel, Wilson's Storm-Petrel and Bridled Tern. One of the photos shows both Wilson's and Leach's Storm-Petrel in the same picture, the Leach's is quite a bit bigger. A list below:
Audubon's Shearwater 3-4
Bridled Tern 12+
Sooty Tern 15+
Leach's Storm-Petrel 2
Wilson's Storm-Petrel 1
Brown Booby 3

Excellent shots Larry. Looks like there was some chop. Must have been pretty challenging out there in a small boat.
Beautiful shots, Larry. Next time you see a Leach's, would you direct to my house, please.
