Tropical Kingbird continues, Broward

John and gang report the Tropical Kingbird in northwest Broward Co. still there this morning. Photographed and heard. Take Loxahatchee Rd West off Rte 441 to end. By concessions stand area.
Note: this is along the southern border of Palm Beach County and not in the area of the refuge headquarters.
Thanks,
Russ

Steve Fass and I arrived at the end of Lox road this am and from distance I saw a kingbird on the wire near pay station . With a photographer nearby Dave Hall.

I scoped the bird and could clearly see a deeply notched tail . We drove right underneath the bird and got great confirming views. Dave said he would forward a picture.

Dave also said he has a white crowned sparrow just west of the pay station in the small trees . We could not locate the bird.

The tropical disappeared then return for about five minutes and flew away again.

Tuesday Russ Titus and I had a western kingbird in that area and a few hours before Bruce Pickholtz photo d a tropical

Nice seeing John Hutchison and Steve Fass this morning at the end of Lox road. Not sure how I would post pictures here. I will post pictures of the Tropical Kingbird with my ebird post and on my Flickr page: https://www.flickr.com/photos/fl_dave/

The White-crowned I thought I had when looking at the back of my camera in the bright sunlight was actually a Savanna Sparrow. Sorry about that John. Cute sparrow, but not a White-crowned. ;-(

If you go down lox rd, watch the wires on the south side. I used to work there, western kingbirds and scissortails are winter residents. It way be a little early, but worth keeping you eyes open. Also, otters common in the canal

I'm confused, several people on ebird reported the bird in Palm Beach County yesterday, isn't the bird technically in Broward County?

There are two issues here. The first is that the bird is effectively sitting on the county line. I have observed it within a period of less than a minute foraging on both sides, so 'technically', either is valid.
The second issue has to do with the eBird (probably Google) map program. The area bordered by Loxahatchee Rd, University Dr, and Hillsboro Blvd (the 'Parkland Wedge') was transferred from PBC to Broward (2010?). However, if you post a spot in that area on eBird it registers as PBC. A number of Broward birders use a proxy location along the south side of Hillsboro Blvd (formerly County Line Rd) to correctly register sightings in Broward and then add specific location info in the description.
