Trop kingbird in Coconut Grove

Seen and heard this evening forst at Bayshore and SW 27th, then followed it and found it again in front of Chart House restaurant. Calling and sitting conspicuously. Don't know how unusual this bird is in S Florida but saw only a few reports on ebird. I live in the tropics so know the bird and its call very well. Hope someone can go get a decent photo!

Bad ones from a cell phone, hardly worth posting

That is a great bird. A few years ago that would be on the rare bird alert for the state, but in the last few years they've become annual and have even attempted breeding. That's a very congested area you saw it in, so I wonder if it will stick around or just continue moving. Not a lot of birding done there.

Good evening Joe,

Through 2014, there have been 48 photographic, audio/video, or specimen records in Florida of the Tropical/Couch's kingbird complex. Eleven of these records can be specifically identified as Tropical Kingbird based on recorded vocalizations. In 2013, 2014, and 2015, a female Tropical Kingbird bred with one or more male Gray Kingbirds at Sarasota and successfully fledged young each year.

I couldn't access your pix from the link above, so I'd appreciate it if you would email them to me.

Thanks.

Best regards,

Bill
