Toe's theory that Ani are feeding on Brazilian Pepper

Interesting idea Toe. Perhaps it should not be surprising then that the recent Dade Ani showed up at Virginia Key, which is still full of Brazilian Pepper.

That patch of Brazilian Pepper is where a Western Spindalis wintered from 2012-2013 as well.

Brazilian Pepper likes to colonize disturbed ground such as old farms or cleared land. Once weeds and small bushes and trees move in, the Smooth-billed Anis like this. There is not a whole lot of those areas left anymore which is a shame.
