Rock Jetty and I headed south at 12:30, arriving at 3:00 p.m. On the drive down a Mangrove Cuckoo flew in front of us on US 1 and I commented that it was a good omen. It was indeed!. We were part of the small group that saw the Cuban Vireo at 5:15 p.m. after the bird began singing it's melodious and repetitive song. Kudos to Mark Hedden, Carl Goodrich, Murray Gardler, and the Dunns for finding and identifying this mega-rarity and Miriam Avello for putting me on the bird. Rock and I were up at 5:00 a.m - Rock for a Cape Sable Seaside Sparrow survey in E.N.P. and me for 18 holes of golf, so despite the adrenaline rush, we were too tired for a celebratory libation! Life is good...................
