Bird Board

TAS Exotics Tour, 2/22/20

Eighteen birders joined Paul Bithorn and me for Tropical Audubon's annual exotics tour. Though we experienced intermittent rain throughout the day, we still managed to find nineteen of Miami's introduced birds. Other nice birds seen along the way included Short-tailed Hawk, Peregrine Falcon and Cedar Waxwing.

Following are the exotic species seen and where they were seen:
Egyptian Goose - Hampton Inn Dadeland, Pine Wood Park, Baptist Hospital, Miami Springs Golf Course, Coral Gables Wayside Park
Muscovy Duck - Along US 1, Baptist Hospital, Miami Springs
Indian Peafowl - South Miami
Gray-headed Swamphen - Dolphin Mall
Rock Pigeon - Shorty's BBQ
Eurasian Collared-Dove - throughout
Monk Parakeet - Pine Woods Park, Virginia Gardens, Miami Springs
Scarlet-fronted Parakeet - Miami Springs
Crimson-fronted Parakeet - Miami Springs
Mitred Parakeet - Miami Springs
Blue-and-yellow Macaw - nine at Gables Estates (thanks, as always, to Daria Feinstein for opening her "macaw sanctuary" to us!)
Yellow-chevroned Parakeet - Matheson Hammock Park
Orange-winged Parrot - Doc Thomas House (seen by a couple of participants at the end of our tour)
Red-whiskered Bulbul - neighborhood north of Baptist Hospital
European Starling - throughout
Common Myna - Central Shopping Plaza
Common Hill Myna - Matheson Hammock Park

Forgot to ask birder photographers who got great shots of the wild blue and gold macaws at my house to send me an extra photo. Would love to post on my parrot sites to reassure wild parrot enthusiasts that some of the macaws are flourishing s keep up the anti poaching efforts.
