Bird Board

TAS Everglades, March 7, 2020

Over 20 birders participated. The list includes a few easily seen species from between Florida City and ENP. Other than that, I haven't included anything seen/heard prior to the start of the walk. I may have missed a few species seen or heard by others during the walk. The winds reduced the overall total, but we had a good day anyway.

In order, we visited the following locations: Coe Visitor's Center, Lucky Hammock, Anhinga and Gumbo Limbo Trails, Hidden Lake Road, Research Road, Long Pine Key (lunch), Mahogany Hammock, Paurotis Pond, Nine Mile Pond, West Lake, Mrazek Pond, Flamingo Visitor's Center, Eco Pond, and the Amphitheater and nearby shoreline at Flamingo.

Some of us saw White-tailed Deer on Research Rd and Manatee at Flamingo.

Some of the group wound up splitting up at the end and visited Eco pond, where we were treated to an impressive aerial dogfight that lasted the better part of 5 minutes, with a bald eagle intent on stealing an osprey's catch-the osprey lost. A merlin also treated us to a few fly bys.
I am attaching a link to some of the photos I took-mostly heavily cropped, so
not the best-but a record of some of the birds seen. Some can be enlarged by clicking on them. They are the first 21 images on the photostream link
