Swainson's Warbler- Enchanted Forest 2/4/16
Hey everyone, I had a Swainson's Warbler this morning at this park in North Miami. I found one here last winter, and this bird is very close to where last years bird (presumably the same one) was frequenting.
Enter the park from NE 135th street and park near the gazebo. Cross the bridge that is next to the gazebo and walk to where the trail splits into two. Don't turn at the sharp left that follows the canal but proceed down the trail into the hammock that follows the perimeter of the park. Soon you'll see an opening in the forest on your right, tall reeds and a locked chain link gate. The bird was working the fallen palmetto fronds just before you reach this clearing. Last year the bird was just beyond the trail intersection mentioned above (200-300 feet away).
I believe there are roughly 5-6 winter records for this bird in North America.
I had twelve other species of warblers this morning, including Magnolia and Worm-eating.

I think it's easier to list the warblers that don't winter in South Florida than the ones that do.
I gave it a shot this morning at Enchanted Forest, but, not surprisingly, didn't see any Swainson's. However, thanks to Alex for the clear directions to the bird's location on 2/4. I did see worm-eating, ovenbird, northern parula, black and white warblers, as well as a crisp blue-headed vireo. I'm visiting from Chicago until next Thursday, so will probably try again a couple more times.
