Smooth-billed Anis continue at Loxahatchee NWR 7/16/2015

Spent yesterday morning birding Jonathan Dickinson State Park (JDSP) before making my way to Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge with Jared Guerra.

JDSP turned up my lifer Bachman's Sparrow (one of the last "easy" birds I have in the state) as well as Florida Scrub-Jay and several Eastern Coachwhips. Full checklist:

Afterwards we made the trek to Loxahatchee to try for the SBANs along the Marsh Trail. We arrived at 1:00 pm and within minutes of getting to the observation deck were able to see them across the canal in a Sable Palm. Shortly after the flew out (one at a time) while calling to our side of the canal and into the water impoundment. All in all a good day out of the dome... full list below:

Congrats on the lifer and the successful outing, Rangel. We missed the Anis for my wife and younger son especially, because my older son and I had seen the Virginia Key one, but we saw various Snail Kites, firsts for the whole family.

Thanks to all who posted here about the park, Angel and Mariel for guidance and encouragement, and Brian for his entry in "Birding Florida", which all helped.

Re: Toe's theory about Anis and Brazilian Pepper, a lot of that invasive on the edge of Loxahatchee.

Palm Beach gives me a clean sweep of counties that I've seen SBAN in (Monroe, Dade and Broward). Have they ever turned up in Martin county?

According to eBird they have also been seen in Okeechobee, St. Lucie, Martin, Hendry, Lee, Pinellas, Pasco, Indian River, and Brevard. Better get cracking!
