Bird Board
Sem-Chi Rice Mill
I'm wondering if anyone has any advice for birding this location. I went this past weekend in hopes of seeing a Yellow-headed Blackbird but it was difficult for me to get much of a view on the birds towards the back of the plant.
I pulled into the main lot for a couple of minutes and saw a cluster of cowbirds/black birds but no yellow-headed; after a few minutes they took off to the back. The adjacent parking lot offered a view of them but it was quite a distance away and even when zooming in later on pictures, it was very difficult to tell what I was looking at. I MAY have captured a shot of one but with the distance and the sun I'm not confident in saying for sure.
Any advice would be much appreciated!

The best time of day to look for them is in the afternoon because that way you have the sun on your back. Going in the morning makes it very tough because you are basically staring into the sunlight. Check all of the silos, underneath them and on top of them. Also check the bridges and structures that connect the silos.
Thanks, Kenny!
Do you have a recommended vantage point? It wasn't exactly a welcoming place where I could walk about.
Park on the east side of the road in front of the first set of Silos in the grass - obviously out of the way of the driveways and off the road. Or you can just stay in your car and search the area with bins. As long as you don't spend too much time there, no one will bother you. If the birds are there you should be able to find them quickly. FYI: Sunday is a lot less congested in regards to traffic.
