Screech Owl Taking Shelter in Attic

Hello there. A screech owl has found its way into my attic and I am soliciting advice from bird experts. I know the source of entry and will leave it open for now so that the owl is not trapped inside. I have not seen the owl but can hear the usual calls during the night clearing coming from the attic; there aren’t any little owlet sounds as far as I can tell. I don’t find its presence bothersome, but certainly want to have it relocated if dwelling in my attic poses any danger to the owl (the attic is empty and not used for storage). I should mention that I live in the village of El Portal, a designated bird sanctuary. There several screech owls within earshot of my home, one or two of which seem to spend much time in the trees on my property. They are particularly vocal this time of year and we love their (outdoor) presence. Any suggestions on how I should proceed are much appreciated!

put up a nest box for it. they like them up a little (10 feet is fine) in it inconspicuous place. they are cavity roosters. there is a shortage of cavities in neighborhoods with groomed yards. Give it an option that it likes better than the attic and it might take it. Plenty of available designs and pre-built models on the internet. Just Google screech owl box.

Terry--I have a beautifully made nest box that the occasional screech owls in my neighborhood eschewed for 2 years(evidently my neighborhood isn't groomed enough, so there must be better cavities). I'd be happy to give you the box on permanent loan in return for 25% of the rent you charge any owls that take the option, or in lieu of that, notice of owl offspring so that I can photograph the little screechers...email me please if you're interested-I visit North Miami at least once a week, and I deliver....

Hi Kurt & Joel, thanks very much for your helpful recommendations. Joel, I would be happy to receive your nest box on loan and according to your terms. It looks like your message was truncated and I don't have your contact info. My email is terry.tasker@gmail.com. Much appreciated!
