Scoters and Gannets and more off Newport Pier

I had never been there before, but I headed to the Newport Pier in Sunny Isles to see what the the winds blew in. I was delighted to find gannets (7 or so), two flocks of black scoters very close to the pier (one had 32 ducks and 17 in another a half hour or so later), and through my scope I spotted three jaegers flying close together. I couldn't differentiate whether they were pomarine or parasitic, but it was still pretty neat to see them from the pier. It doesn't look like anyone ever goes out there, but if in you're in the neighborhood it may be worth a look....

I've done a handful of seawatches from there during the fall/winter of 2013 and it produced some large flocks of jaegers streaming south as well as gannets. If the kittiwake from up north is driven off by the intense fishing pressure, this pier may be our knight in shining armor!

A pair of black scoters are visible now off the Fort Lauderdale beach about one mile south of the Angler's Pier
