I thought most of the Red-Tailed Hawks in Florida are Light phase or Eastern. I can see them year round in Broward.
I did not know we had residents, steven. Do they breed in south florida?
Red-shouldered Hawk is the common resident hawk here in south Florida. In the rest of the country, Red-tailed Hawk is the common species. Red-tailed Hawks are resident here in south Florida but certainly not as common as the Red-shouldered Hawk. When my son and I did our June Challenge, we did find Red-tailed Hawk here Homestead and the western area of Miami/Dade County.

I know several possible breeding spots in Broward. Tall Cypress has a pair that have fought with the Gt Horned Owls for the use of a particular tree. In Parkland (CLR area) there is always 1-2 pairs, while this year I saw 2 adults and 1 immature together. Sunset Park (Tamarac) I have repeatedly seen an adult and juvenile together.
Interesting stuff. Thanks, guys
