Purple Swamphen sites

Hi folks, a Virginia birder, here with a question
I have been planning a trip to Florida for months.
I am certainly going to try for Variegated Flycatcher tomorrow.

I was going to look for the “Purple Swamphens”, while in that general area.
Is the Pembroke Pines still the best area for that species,
or would you recommend some other location?

You could write me off-line if that is better.
Thanks, David Bridge

I do not know if the Variegated Flycatcher was seen after Sat Oct 31. Even then it was roaming more afar from the Magic Ficus tree..
Broward County GH Swamphen sites: All listed as ebird Hotspots.
Chapel trail: they are always there but can be hidden in the weeds.
Vista View Park: always there. You need to go to the Western side of the park along the canal between the park and the communities. I had upt o 26 birds, several within the first 50-100 feet. Side benefit are the many Burrowing Owls.
Tamarac Wetlands/City Furniture: always there but several pairs at most and can be hidden.

Also if you have trouble finding any while down there, and if it's not too far, you can get as close as a guarantee to find them in southern Palm Beach county, at Green Cay Wetlands or Wakodahatchee Wetlands. They moved in a few years back and are now very populous and not at all shy - there hasn't been a weekend there in the past year I haven't seen them.

Swamphens are what I was referring to above, and stupidly forgot to mention that!

You can also find purple swamp hens in the Markham park wma. With the added benefit of snail kites in the same area.

I live in Pembroke Pines and would be happy to show you around if you decide to go to Pembroke pines

This weekend I I photographed the Purple Swamphens in Wodohatchee Preserve near Boynton Beach, Florida.
