Potential Safety Issue Fortymile Bend

I arrived at Fortymile Bend at ~10 am this morning and observed three individuals just starting to walk down the road. All three were armed with high powered air rifles and were shooting at every bird they could see. I contacted the local police who promptly dispatched 3 cars to deal with the situation. They asked me to leave, so I’m not sure how it was actually resolved.

Just wanted anyone thinking of birding there in the near future to be aware of this incident.

For those not familiar with Fortymile Bend, it's the intersection of Tamiami Trail (US 41) and Loop Road at the east end of Big Cypress National Preserve.

TAS President Joe Barros and I visited Fortymile Bend this morning. I am pleased to report that we had the trail entirely to ourselves and didn't hear a single gunshot the entire morning!
