Possible Green-breasted Mango

I spent the last 2 days at Castellow Hammock Park looking for the possible Green-breasted Mango. Today at 1:00 I saw a bright emerald green hummer that was clearly larger then the 2 Buff-bellied and numerous Ruby-throated hummers that are now there. The bird had a black curved bill and unfortunately did not turn so that I could see the front of the bird. When it turned its head to the side I could see black and white running down the throat area. Another birder saw perhaps the same bird at nearly the same time and did get some pictures. I will be in touch with him to see if he got some identifiable shots.

Where in did you see the bird? What kind of flower was it feeding? I really hope the other person is able to provide images... even if they are not very good. I'm likely to return to the park again tomorrow to look for the bird again. My guess is Larry Manfredi will spend time there tomorrow as well. Your descriptions make me want to try again.

I saw the bird in the SE corner of the garden. I did not see the bird feeding, but observed it perched for 30 seconds in a bush with yellow flowers. The other 2 hummer types were observed feeding on fire bush and shrimp plant in that area. The other birder saw the bird in the same area, 20 feet up in a fire bush. Be aware that there is also an adult male Ruby-throat that favors that same bush. If you need any more assistance, I would her glad to reply. I just got back to St Johns Co. and will check on the photos tomorrow morning.

Mango musings: Always makes sense to look where the bird has been seen. But from the scarcity and briefness of the 3 reported sightings, it seems the Mango is merely passing through Castellow. So where is it spending more of its time? It's a large hummer and could have a very large track line: a wide circle of areas it checks. But is there any other site with a good collection of blooming plants? Yeah, south Florida is full of blooming plants, so not an easy question. But, any other sites known for colorful yards?

Musings, like I said.
