Pin-tailed Whydah at Bill Baggs
Today at about 9:30 a.m. I saw a male Pin-tailed Whydah next to the walkway leading to the beach on the north side of the first picnic area in Bill Baggs State Park. It was feeding in the grass along with a few Palm Warblers. The bird was unmistakable: small, finch-like, black upperparts, white underparts and wing bar, thick red bill, and very long, black tail. It was very approachable. Sorry, but I didn't get a picture; I need to get more responsible about carrying a camera!
