Passing of Murray Gardler

It's with great sadness to post that Murray Gardler passed away last night in Brooksville, FL. Murray was a great friend and an icon in the birding community. His presence and positive influence was felt for many years at the Space Coast Birding Festival and on the Florida Ornithological Society, especially the _Florida Field Naturalist_ publication. His moniker of "Mangrove Murray" was in recognition of his great sleuthing in November 2002 when he identified the first Mangrove Swallow seen in the US. There are many great Murray stories to be shared!

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to HPH Hospice, 12242 Cortez Blvd., Brooksville FL 34613.

Oh No. So sad to hear this. At Space Coast he was still leading and finding birds for us ALL. We discussed the pursuit of the Harris Sparrow in his area. He will truly be missed. Thank you Murray for all you've done for the Florida Birding Community. It is the way to go though. Birding until the end. I hope it is the same for me.

I will always love and miss my dad.

He was a great father, grandfather, husband, friend,
and bird-watcher.

I hope that he is soaring with the eagles in heaven!!!

Please always remember my dad, best friend and inspiration.

Hi
So sorry for your loss. I worked with Murray a hundred years ago and too am a nature lover. No one else could understand Murray's passion for birds but i did. We would talk about birds when we should have been talking about cars with everyone else. Oddly enough I live about 40 miles from Brooksville. It is a wonderful thing Zak does to keep us informed of everything that is happening in the old world of Buick.
Sincerely
Mike King
