Steve,
Here are some of my recent sightings. Owls definately abound:
I have seen a Barn Owl flying aound at the wildlife area just north of Lucky Hammock. I have seen him around sunset. Two weeks ago. There was also a Great Horned Owl at the L31w canal where the bridge crosses to the everglades national park.
I have seen a Barred Owl at Lucky Hammock a week back around sunset.
Burrowing owl at Tamiami Airport a week ago.
Eastern Screech Owl at Kendall Indian Hammocks three weeks ago.

Steve,
You didn't mention where you are located. If you're in the Palm Beach County area, you could stop by Loxahatchee NWR where there are nesting Great Horned Owls with two chicks.
(Plus you might pick up a Snail Kite or two or a Smooth-billed Ani or two.)
