Nightjar Survey, 5/29

Last night, I completed my annual nightjar surveys in Homestead and Everglades National Park for the Center for Conservation Biology (http://www.nightjars.org/). A total of 7 Common Nighthawks (all in Homestead) and 23 Chuck-will's-widows (6 in Homestead, 17 in ENP) were heard. No Antillean Nighthawks were heard this year. I also heard two Barred Owls at Royal Palm. Killdeer and Indian Peafowl were heard in Homestead.

for what it's worth, I birded 168th Street between S-357 and 237 Ave from 5 to 6 am on 5/30 and had 10 Common Nighthawks and 3 calling Chuck-will's-widows. Right before sunrise, a Northern Bobwhite was also calling.
