Migrants at Deering Estate

At 1:30pm I went for a stroll hoping to see some migrating swallows. Although I saw no birds flying over, I did come across a nice feeding flock consisting of 3 Yellow-throated Warblers, a Northern Parula, 2 Black-and-white Warblers, an American Redstart and an early Prothonotary Warbler. Hopefully this is a good sign of things to come!

I ran into a mixed flock of Black Terns (mostly still really black) and Common Nighthawks, maybe a dozen of each on the US 27 sod farms.
At the northwest corner of 827 and 27 is a lovely flooded field. No birds today, but hopefully they will keep it wet.

I also checked out the spot where David Simpson reported 20 Swallow-tailed Kites on FL 78 across from Banana Grove Rd. Nothing. Also nothing at a spot on US 27 after the La Belle turnoff where someone reported 400 of them on e-bird. If you go to look, beware. The bridge at Moore Haven has been turned into a speed trap.
