Carl Edwards called to report a Kirtland's Warbler at Lantana Scrub Preserve. I don't haves any other details.

The Kirtland's Warbler was seen about 200 feet in where the Nature Trail forks on a branch over the path.

Direction: Exit I-95 and go east on Lantana Rd to US-1. Go South two block and turn east onto E. Ocean Ave. Go over the bridge and past the first intersection. Preserve on your left (north)side.

Lantana Nature Preserve is name on sign.

There is a Lantana Scrub Natural Area (exit 95 at Hypoluxo and go east) it is on the South side of Hypoluxo almost to Federal Hwy (just before the railroad tracks) and a Lantana Nature Preserve as described above. Larry used part of the name of both areas......the Nature Preserve is not a scrub area, it is Mangroves.

Yeah it would be nice to know which location. I cannot find the bird being reported on ebird so that doesn't seem to help.

Directions to this location can be found on the TAS rare bird update.

OK, I managed to find this new site. But where is the "TAS rare bird update" Brian refers to in previous comment?

I was wondering if the Kirtland's had been found yesterday? One-day wonder?

May I suggest that someone from TAS post about the new website for TAS and the BirdBoard on the listservs? Brdbrains and FL-Birds? (Could be this already happened and I missed it.) Thanks.

Brian - is the rare bird update editable? The directions sound wrong - I assume it's trying to guide folks to the Lantana Nature Preserve...the directions say to turn onto E. Ocean Ave, then go to Atlantic Drive and turn left. If the Nature Preserve is the intended destination, you would need to PASS Atlantic Ave, go over the low canal bridge, then look for the left turn immediately after the canal. If you go as far as the strip mall on the right, you've just passed it. There is a small sign.

If folks turn north on Atlantic Drive, it's all residential for about 1/2 mile then ends.

For clarification - There are three separate natural areas mentioned in the comments. The Lantana Nature Preserve is a 12-acre site located at 400 E. Ocean Ave. on Hypoluxo Island. It is owned by the Town of Lantana. It is on the north side of Ocean Ave. and has a small parking area. There is a Facebook page for this site.

The Lantana Scrub Natural Area is a 33-acre site in the Town of Lantana that is managed by Palm Beach County. It is located on the north side of Lantana Road between Andrew Redding Road and Southwinds Drive., between I-95 and U.S. 1. It is north of the Palm Beach County Health Dept. Lantana/Lake Worth Health Center. There is no parking area at this time.

The Hypoluxo Scrub Natural Area is a 98-acre natural area managed by Palm Beach County; most of the site is owned by the County. It is located on the south side of Hypoluxo Road, between Overlook Road and U.S. 1. There is a parking area and a large observation tower.

Information on the Lantana and Hypoluxo Scrub Natural Areas is at www.pbcgov.com/erm/natural/naturalareas/lantana-scrub and /hypoluxo-scrub.

Correction - to access the Lantana Scrub Natural Area, go north on Andrew Redding Road to Southwinds Drive and then east on Southwinds Drive.

Interesting location to find a KIWA. When we were doing research on them in the Bahamas 30 years ago we found that about 60 percent of their observed diet was the seeds/ fruits of Lantana involucurata.
