Bird Board

Highland Oaks Park Oct 4

Taking the cue from Cajunspice, I birded Highland Oaks Park this morning, a place I drive past weekly, and didn't even know was there. Its a pretty little park, with varied habitats, a nice lake, and NO CATS. Lots of Egyptian Geese. I got 10 species of warblers, with Cape May (7), Orange-crowned and Magnolia notable. There was also a Summer Tanager and a Baltimore Oriole in the ficus next to the playground. Half a dozen Eastern Kingbirds near the ball field. The nice thing about this park is the large number of medium-sized oaks and other native trees that the birds like, and are thus very easy to see close-up.
