Bird Board
Coral Gables Black-whiskered Vireo
Walking along the Granada Golf Course today I heard a BWVI singing his heart out. I was not prepared with binoculars so i tried to pish him into view resulting in watching through the canopy a bird-form fly away into the trees across the street. I went about my walk conforming to a "heard" bird. As I circled back I could hear him singing again. I decided to try again, this time owling. Same result, watching through the canopy a bird-form fly away into the trees across the street. Oh well, there was no mistaking the song.

Unlike the Red-eyed Vireo, the Black-whiskered Vireo ignores pishing and even ignores other birds that react to it. This I read today in Pete Dunne's Essential Field Guide Companion.
Yes, even in the Keys when you hear them singing every 10 feet they are tough to spot. Thanks for sharing.
We have been lucky to have one singing in our yard in Homestead for the last two weeks. I sure hope it is there tomorrow for the start of the June challenge.
I will take my walk extra early tomorrow to see if I can hear it singing and get it on my June Challenge list. Thank s Larry.
