So this morning at AD Barnes I spotted what I assumed was a Common Nighthawk in flight and in really good light. When I went to post my list for the day Lesser Nighthawk appears as a "common" species and a Common is on the rare list. Is this correct? I am not really familiar with a lesser nighthawk and am new to the area so I am wondering if the lesser is....well...common to A D Barnes. Any insight is appreciated.

Common Nighthawk becomes quite scarce at this time of year as most have migrated south. Lesser Nighthawk is a rare bird in south Florida but does show up every winter but mostly in wilder areas. I don't think that the habitat is very suitable for a Lesser Nighthawk at A.D.Barnes. My guess is that you saw a late migrating Common Nighthawk.
