Shortly after arriving at the above park, I spotted a Carolina Wren on the brown wooden bench just behind the visitor center. It flew straight back to the edge of the hammock. I got a couple of I.D. quality photos and the manager was in the office so I spoke with her regarding the sighting. It appeared just to move further back into the hammock, but I did not pursue it.

Apparently the Carolina Wren can be seen west of Chrome Ave--on the Tamiami Trail and in certain parts of ENP---but was nice seeing this one so close at Castellow Park today.
Great find for that park! I've had them at the Miccosukee Airboat location, Big Cypress and the pinelands of Everglades National Park in June. Still need that bird for the year.
Sweet! I went out to Tamiami Trail yesterday trying to bag one for the year yesterday. No luck but I got a Great Horned Owl and Yellow-billed Cuckooo.
Hi All:
Congrats on the find, Jeanette.
My older son and I found our first in Dade Carolina Wrens, 3 of them, on May 23 at 11:30 (isn't eBird great for this stuff?) in the hammock nearest to the visitor's center. They were singing up a storm. Earlier in the morning would probably be even better. It was a nice reward after all the sweat and horseflies along the Tamiami Trail embankment.
Hope it's helpful.
I just looked at e-bird and it says the last sighting of a Carolina Wren was in 2010 at Castellow Hammock Park.
Nice.
Rangel said that some one had one at the Deering Estate during the quail-dove time period. It is a shame that they have become such uncommon to rare birds.
