Bufflehead at quarry lake/Nothing at Newport Pier
I had a female Bufflehead at the quarry lake on SW 107th Ave. the bird was still being seen around 4 this afternoon. The duck was swimming with a few hooded mergansers.
Hoping to take advantage of the strong northerly winds I spent a couple hours at the Newport Pier where nothing really interesting was seen. A few close gannets and a compelling something I couldn't identify (shorebird larger than a sanderling smaller than a willet---phalarope?--flying against the wind and out to sea) were the only things of note.

Ditto the lack of seabirds offshore Key Biscayne and Boynton Inlet today. Perhaps tomorrow when winds swing more out of the east?
On Monday I tried to turn my 350 offshore mystery guests into phalaropes but they turned out to be Buffleheads! Their quick wing beats and tight groups gave the impression of shorebirds.
