Brant, Cape Sable, Everglades National Park

Birders visiting the Cape Sable area of Everglades National Park should be on the lookout for a Brant that was photographed at East Cape Camp last week. An eBird checklist that includes a photograph is at http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist/S32788272. A boat is needed to access this area.

Thank you, Brian. Does anyone else notice something unusual about this Brant? Though the photo is distant, the plumage seems to be like a "Black" Brant, which winters on the Pacific coast and seems the least likely of this species to be here in South Florida. I sent the photo to an experienced birder in WA and will share his opinion.

Good thing it's in an easy area to get to.
