Bird Festival at Fairchild: Miami Exotics Tour, 10/1

A great group of local and visiting birders, seventeen in all, joined Paul Bithorn and me for the Bird Festival at Fairchild Miami exotics tour on Thursday. Locations visited included Matheson Hammock Park, Daria Fienstein's macaw sanctuary in Gable's Estates (Thanks, Daria, as always for opening your home to us!), King's Creek, Baptist Hospital, A.D. Barnes Park, the Ocean Bank area (near MIA) and Miami Springs.

Introduced species seen along the way included Egyptian Goose, Graylag Goose, Swan Goose, Muscovy Duck, Rock Pigeon, Eurasian Collared-Dove, White-winged Dove, Orange-winged Parrot, Mitred Parakeet, Yellow-chevroned Parakeet, Red-whiskered Bulbul, European Starling, Common Myna, Hill Myna, Spot-breasted Oriole (four!) and House Sparrow. Other birds of note that we encountered during our tour included Limpkin (three in King's Creek!), Short-tailed Hawk, Burrowing Owl and Pileated Woodpecker.
