By big water I mean big seas. As Rangel mentioned, the strong offshore winds have the potential of pushing rarities to our area. This is especially true for pelagic species, which are aloft over the ocean to begin with. The Northeast - East winds 25-30 knots are probably pushing any pelagics passing through the straights towards our coast. While a seawatch from shore will produce some birds, the majority will still remain over the deeper waters offshore. Winds are forecast to decrease slightly by Friday and Saturday to NE-E at 15-20 knots with 4'-6' seas. This is still rough, but not dangerously rough like it is now. I'm planning to head out Saturday morning to do some trolling for wahoo and also see what's out there as far as birds. Anyone who's brave enough is welcome to come, but bear in mind the conditions.
