A Firestone at dykes road just north of Sheridan has landscaping with coontie plants, it has had them for several years. today was the first time I've ever seen atala butterflies there, dozens of them were in the area, I took numerous photos. I never expected this planting to be colonized. Is this natural propagation, or was there a human transplant?...is what I wonder.

Atalas are fairly common right now in parts of Broward County, so I suspect natural dispersal would be very likely. I had one today flying over Route 1 in Dania Beach, and recently they appear to have colonized the massive coontie planting along 595. They are often common at Richardson Park.

Little thing most people don't know. Atalas love Brazilian pepper
FIU has landscaped quite a bit of space with coontie. Hopefully, the butterflies will make their way down here.
