I am visiting the area starting tomorrow and this is an exciting report for me. Two questions:
a) What are the odds that these are wild birds?
b) What kind of access to this location is there? According to the FWC website this site is "open only for seasonal waterfowl and alligator hunts". Given the number of eBird reports clearly these is some kind of access possible.
Any advice would be most appreciated.
The flamingos that visit STA-2 are almost certainly wild birds. Unfortunately, STA-2 is only open to birders during tours offered by Audubon of the Everglades, the Palm Beach County Audubon chapter. Their last flamingo tours of the season were this past weekend, I believe. See http://www.auduboneverglades.org/field-trips/ for updates.

We, Audubon Society of the Everglades, are working with SFWMD now to hopefully schedule another tour date this coming weekend (no tours allowed on weekdays).
