Altamira Oriole

Has anyone else noticed an Altamira Oriole in the Coral Ridge Mall area of Fort Lauderdale? I have seen one on a few occasions the past two weeks. I'm curious, as to how rare it is for this bird to be in the area .

Why is it not a Spot-breasted Oriole?

No, I don't think so. It has a large black spot from the beak to the chest, the rest of the chest is solid yellow with no small spots

Yellow breast? The spotting is consistent with a young Spot-breasted, which could be a bit yellower than the adults. Did you get a look at the amount of white on the wing?

The juvenile Spot-breasted are yellow with no spots and fairly common.

I realize this is an old thread, but I'm beginning to believe that we have both species here. I live in Fort Lauderdale (near downtown) and we've had Spot-breasted Orioles in our yard for years. We've had then nest in our bamboo more than once, and I have lots of good pictures of them over the years. In all my old pics, the birds are quite clearly Spot-breasted Orioles.

However, the last two years now the birds we're getting do not have any spots on their breasts. And last spring, when a pair nested and produced a single offspring, we got a very good close look at both the parents and the fledgling, which visited our Oriole feeder just outside our kitchen window multiple times a day. The fledgling was yellow, with no spots, and the parents are the typical bright orange, but also lack any spots on the breast. Otherwise they look very much like the Spot-breasted Orioles we've always had, but there is no hint of spots on the breast at all.

I definitely saw an altamira oriole in my backyard--I live in Miami (the Falls area). I have photos!

I just saw a pair of what I believe were Altamira Orioles in my neighborhood. I had the spot breasted oriole in my bird book and thought that was the closest but when I looked it up online I found the Altamira version that looks much more like the pictures I took. I live in Boca Raton.

We live in the Tarpon River area of Fort Lauderdale and have been observing (June 2020) what definitely looks like an Altamira Oriole foraging for insects in our poinciana tree. Absolutely no spots on the breast.

Im in the lake worth area and ive seen 2 of them. 1 male and 1 female they are for sure altamira oriole’s. They built a nest on a tree right on my house. The eggs have hatched already. I have never seen these birds around my area so i was wondering if they aren’t supposed to be here or not
